At $84,900, the 8 Series Gran Coupe in its base 840i specification is already one of the priciest BMWs you can buy, but you can pay a lot more for the lavish sedan by getting the $143,000 M8 Competition Gran Coupe. We still haven’t reached the ceiling yet as there’s also a more expensive First Edition capped at just 400 cars for the whole world. Within this limited-run, the very first eight cars are part of an “8-Of-8” series featuring an assortment of tweaks on top of the already special variant.

The car’s exterior design is heavily inspired by the Concept M8 Gran Coupe unveiled back in March 2018 at the Geneva Motor Show as a preview for the production model. BMW’s flagship sedan wears an exclusive Individual Aurora Diamond Green Metallic paint combined with gold bronze accents and special badging.

The corona rings of the headlights are illuminated in yellow as a nod to BMW race cars of yesteryear, while the B-pillar is adorned with a laser-etched “1 of 8” logo. Rounding off the changes on the outside are the “BMW Individual Manufaktur” lettering on the door sills and a “1 of 8” badge on the tailgate.

The German luxury marque also put some extra effort into tweaking the interior where the floor mats are exclusive to this special edition and there are additional clues denoting it’s not just an ordinary M8 Competition Gran Coupe. All eight cars have a Merino leather upholstery finished in Taruma Brown to complement those gold bronze accents.

While production of the M8 Gran Coupe will kick off in March 2020 with the First Edition, these eight cars have already been built in an identical specification. One is earmarked for domestic market Germany, with the other seven going to the U.S, Switzerland, Belgium, U.K., Russia, Japan, and Qatar. It costs about $230,000 and that makes it one of the most expensive new BMWs ever built, more than double the starting price of the heavily related $110,000 M5 Competition. At the same time, it’s also way more expensive than the V12-powered M760i xDrive ($157,000) and the i8 Roadster ($163,300).

Barely There
On Wednesday, BMW announced the creation of a BMW X6 coated in Vantablack VBx2, a version of the coating that absorbs 99 percent of light compared to the original Vantablack’s 99.965 percent.

“It wouldn’t have worked if we’d put on the original material,” Surrey CTO Ben Jensen told New Atlas. “The viewer would have lost all sense of three-dimensionality. VBx2 with its one percent reflectance provides just enough of a hint of shape.”

It’s called the 2020 BMW X7 M50i, and although it starts with the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 from the more sedate xDrive50i trim, it bumps the output to levels guaranteed to silence sibling arguments. Peace isn’t cheap — the X7 M50i starts just north of $100,000 — but the power it places in the hands of the driver is priceless.

Now With Whiplash for Seven!
There’s no doubt that the xDrive50i has enough grunt to get out of its own way. No matter how many friends, family, pets, or crates of gold bullion you load it with, its 456 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque guarantee effortless launches and formidable acceleration.

But as befits a BMW adorned by numerous M badges, the M50i is stronger still. There’s 523 hp on tap along with 553 lb-ft of torque — increases of 67 hp and 74 lb-ft, respectively, compared to the xDrive50i. BMW says that’s good for a sprint to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds, besting its lesser sibling by a healthy 0.7 second. Should you decide to ship your X7 M50i to Germany for some exercise on the autobahn, know that the standard all-season tires come with a 130-mph speed limiter, while the optional summer performance tires raise the ceiling to 155 mph.

In Between Stoplight Races
If outrunning the local constabulary isn’t your cup of tea, you might still be interested in the X7 M50i’s other performance enhancements. Bumping power output requires more engine cooling, so the front bumper has been redesigned with larger air openings, which have the secondary benefit of giving this crossover a more aggressive look. The upgraded brakes and sport-tuned, electronically controlled rear differential from the xDrive50i’s Dynamic Handling package are both standard on the M50i for better control near the limit. There are also a handful of tweaks to transmission behavior and suspension components to provide a sportier driving experience.

BMW has given some love to the cabin, as well. M badges have been liberally distributed, and you’ll also find illuminated doorsill plates, front sport seats, upgraded leather upholstery and a faux suede headliner.

2020 BMW M4 Review-The traditional magic behind BMW’s vaunted M-car lineup lies in its balance of comfort and high performance. A prime example is the 2020 BMW M4. A strong six-cylinder engine, taut handling and powerful braking make the M4 a world-class sport coupe, but you don’t need to drive it at world-class levels to enjoy it. Its cosseting seats, large trunk and user-friendly tech interface make it just as good on the daily commute or long drives out of town.

Sure, you can get those same qualities from BMW’s regular 4 Series coupe. But what you won’t get is the M4’s brash alter ego, the one that grips the tarmac with tenacity and wildly accelerates with nearly 450 horsepower under the hood. It also looks more aggressive than the regular 4 Series thanks to subtle styling enhancements such as wider fenders and a domed hood.

One minor item of note is that the 4 Series and the M4 carry over unchanged for 2020, unlike the related 3 Series, which BMW redesigned for the 2019 model year. That means the M4 is getting a bit old, at least from a design and technology standpoint. You might also find that the M4’s main rival, the Mercedes-AMG C 63, is more exhilarating to drive. Overall, though, the M4 continues to be a great sport coupe that maximizes both performance and daily livability.

2020 BMW 3 Series Review-Fresh off a redesign last year, the BMW 3 Series continues to provide one of the best combinations of comfort, performance and prestige you’ll find among small luxury sport sedans. This new seventh-generation model is 3 inches longer and 1.5 inches wider than before, but it remains as agile and steady in the fast curves as ever.

2020 BMW 3 Series Review-Keys to its charms are a larger, stiffer chassis, and retuned suspension and steering, which tighten up the 3 Series’ already considerable handling performance. A turbocharged four-cylinder engine, carried over from the previous model, gains slightly more horsepower and increased low-end torque. And for 2020, a six-cylinder engine option returns in the form of the new M340i.

It’s no ordinary six-cylinder either. The M340i pumps out a stout 382 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, which was M3 territory just a few years ago. We assume the forthcoming redesigned M3 will add another 100 hp to that total, but for now the M340i serves as an appealing substitute. The only downside is that you can’t get a manual transmission anymore.

Even with its power and athleticism, the 3 Series is still a sensible sedan. The new model maintains the 3 Series’ hallmarks of interior comfort and quality. You’ll find sporty and form-fitting seats, impressive touchscreen displays and infotainment, and finer details such as ambient cabin lighting and oak, maple and aluminum accents. A large trunk, combined with 40/20/40-split folding rear seats and a hands-free opening trunklid, also offers excellent utility,

If there’s any complaint about the 3 Series, it may be that its competence overwhelms exhilaration. Its Audi A4/S4 rival feels more modern with a tech-oriented flair, and its primary Mercedes competitor leans more into luxury than performance. Newer competitors, such as the Alfa Romeo Giulia and the Genesis G70, offer drivers something a little different, including the increasingly rare manual transmission.

The BMW X6 has always been a niche vehicle. Besides an elevated ride height, the two greatest differences between a crossover and a sedan are the more spacious rear-seat accommodations and greater cargo flexibility that a crossover affords. The X6 — which BMW insists on calling a Sports Activity Coupe — offers neither. Its tapered roofline both severely limits headroom in the back row and cuts into maximum cargo space. Its small rear window also impedes upon rear visibility.

2020 BMW X6-So what sense does it make to offer this outlandish SUV with the most ho-hum engines available? It’s a question BMW asks and answers with the introduction of the high-octane 2020 BMW X6 M. While the standard X6’s twin-turbo V8 offers up to 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque, the X6 M turns up the wick to an even 600 hp. If its claimed 0-60 mph time of 3.8 seconds feels a touch too slow, fret not — the available Competition package bumps output to 617 hp and shaves a tenth off that time.

BMW is introducing a number of upgrades to help the chassis manage the considerable increase in power. Out front are bumpers with larger air intakes to feed the two radiators that keep the internals cool. A standard electronically controlled M Sport differential helps route power through the 21-inch wheels shod in summer performance tires (22-inch rear wheels are optional). Stiffer engine mounts and strut braces work to keep the front end controlled, and standard adaptive suspension dampers vary the ride from cushy to track-ready. An adaptive exhaust system with quad pipes further drives the performance theme home; the standard M Sport exhaust on Competition models is even more boisterous. For a sportier look, other visual enhancements include exaggerated fender flares, a rear diffuser, and roof and tailgate spoilers.

Interior upgrades are relatively minimal. The aggressive front sport seats offer a multitude of adjustments, including upper-back angle and bolster width. Leather upholstery and carbon-fiber trim are both standard, and the Competition package further adds leather kneepads — helpful during spirited driving. The M division’s unique color scheme is also visible on the steering wheel and shifter stitching. There are a few red accents as well, including on the steering wheel’s programmable M buttons.

While several packages remain on the options list, the X6 M comes with a few features that cost extra on the standard variants. Leather dash upholstery, faux suede headliner, heated armrests, a heated steering wheel, and the most full-featured version of the iDrive infotainment system are included on every model, which helps narrow the significant price jump from the X6 M50i and X6 M. For those who want to eke out every bit of performance, the optional M Driver’s package increases the top speed from 155 to 177 mph and includes a voucher to one of BMW’s East Coast or West Coast driving schools.

The original BMW X1 was one of the first smaller family SUVs to wear a premium badge, arriving well before this kind of car enjoyed a boom in popularity. Its jacked-up, chunky looks proved a hit, but it wasn’t until this second generation arrived that it truly deserved its BMW badge.

It’s just as well that the latest model is up to scratch; its direct rivals include the talented Audi Q3, the Mercedes GLA and Volkswagen Tiguan, along with the very impressive Volvo XC40 and Range Rover Evoque,bmw x1 2020. Under the surface, the X1 shares much with the Mini Countryman SUV as well as the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, which was BMW’s first ever MPV.

The X1 is available with turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engines and 2.0-litre diesels, and buyers can choose between front and four-wheel drive. What’s more, there’s a plug-in hybrid option on the way, following a facelift for 2019. Outside, the X1’s look has been brought into line with other recent BMWs and its interior has gained more technology, with the option of a bigger 10.3in touchscreen infotainment screen.

That legend, by the way, started all the way back in 1986 when the first M3—a performance edition of the similarly beloved E30 3-series—hit the scene. Despite the fact that the first one was offered only as a coupe, today’s M3 comes only as a sedan; coupe and convertibles now wear the M4 badge.

Engines, Ride, and Handling

For more power, the Competition package offers 444 ponies. A six-speed manual is standard and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic is optional. When we tested an automatic M3 equipped with the Competition package, it blasted from zero to 60 mph in just 4.0 seconds. Key rivals such as the Cadillac CTS-V and the Mercedes-AMG C63 S were both slightly faster at 3.6 and 3.9 seconds to 60 mph, respectively. Even in the most aggressive driving modes, we found the M3’s ride agreeable. The M3 is a blast to throw down a twisty road and it gives the driver more confidence with every turn.

Interior and Technology
The interior layout is identical to the standard 3-series sedan and materials are largely the same as well. It’s a driver-focused cabin with primary controls all within reach of the driver, but its layer of sportier carbon-fiber trim (metal and wood are also offered) and sport seats don’t feel special enough considering the M3’s performance potential and starting price. An infotainment display sprouts from the top of the dashboard and is controlled by a rotary knob on the center console. BMW’s iDrive interface is easy to use and is augmented with navigation and a Harman/Kardon audio system as standard. BMW offers several driver-assistance features on the M3, including automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and automatic high-beam headlamps, but none are standard fare.


i8 BMW CAR-Four years from launch and the i8 still feels like it’s come to earth via a discontinuity in spacetime. Yet now here’s what what we earthlings call a facelift. Albeit the face has hardly changed. Main news is the gorgeous Roadster version. The Coupe also gets many of the same under-skin changes, usefully improving both its handling and efficiency.

The i8 looks amazingly radical. Minimal-drag shape- i8 BMW ,work for efficiency is artfully combined with flourishes of crowd-pleasing flamboyance.

The powertrain and structure are just as unorthodox and brave as the styling. A small mid-mounted 231bhp petrol engine drives the rear wheels through a six-speed automatic gearbox, while a biggish 143bhp electric motor drives the front wheels.

That allows three distinct sorts of propulsion. In sports mode you’ve got AWD sports-car driving with performance to roughly match i8 BMW ’s own M4. Hybrid mode is peaceful and ultra-efficient. Or it can travel purely electrically up to 75mph, using the plug-in battery reserve.

The car can finesse its drive strategy to use the minimum energy – whether that energy comes from petrol or electricity.

Low drag is one part of that, and so’s minimal rolling resistance – look at those tyres. Another is light weight. The Coupe is 1,535kg. Even the Roadster is under 1,600kg, which is less than a 911 when outfitted with 4WD, autobox and electric roof. How did they do that? By using a tub of carbon-fibre with aluminium subframes and lightweight exterior panels.

But it was such a moonshot when new that its engineers sensibly exercised a certain amount of caution. With the benefit of experience, they have juiced up the battery (it holds 70 per cent more than before) and the main traction motor too. Gainers are electric range and hybrid performance and fuel-efficiency. It should now do a realistic 20-25 miles of electric range, and the official CO2 numbers are as low as 42g/km for the Coupe.

Also they’ve quelled the original’s front understeer by using new front damper calibration and a stouter rear anti-roll bar. The Roadster gets those changes and the coupe takes the sportiness up another notch.

The Roadster isn’t just a fair-weather spyder. The three-layer electric cloth roof is properly weather sealed and quiet. So it adds another facet to this amazing car. Easing silently through a town in electric mode, roof down, makes you feel enchantingly intimate with the streetscape. But roof-up in 4WD sports mode, you’ve still got the coupe’s talent as a proper all-weather ground coverer.

All-new in 2019, the X5 lineup now includes three models of escalating price and performance. The BMW X5 competes against class stalwarts such as the Audi Q7 and the Mercedes GLE-class. It evokes the brand’s well-known sporting heritage with its muscular and refined turbocharged inline-six and V-8 engines, eye-opening acceleration, and impressive cornering grip. What’s New for 2020?
This year, the big change to the X5 lineup can be summed up in three words: even more performance. BMW has added a fourth member to the stable, the M50i, which pummels the asphalt with 523 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque from its turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8—up 67 horsepower and 74 lb-ft from the xDrive50i’s similar 4.4-liter V-8. The M50i package includes a standard eight-speed automatic transmission, an electronic limited-slip rear differential, an M Sport exhaust, bigger brakes, and sportier suspension tuning with adaptive dampers. The X5 40i models are available in both sDrive (rear-drive) and xDrive (all-wheel drive) configurations. The V-8 models come standard with all-wheel drive and receive wireless phone-charging capability and a Wi-Fi hotspot standard. BMW says that a six-cylinder, plug-in-hybrid version of the X5 “is expected in 2020.”
